Eliza turns 100

The spotlight is on you, Eliza our mighty Wurlitzer Opus 637 , as you celebrate your 100th birthday today!
That’s around 36,742½ days since a Melbourne audience first heard the magnificent sound of your pipes on 7 November 1924, at the opening concert of The Capitol, with Horace Weber at the console.
For almost 55 years, this 3/16 Wurlitzer was housed at the Dendy Theatre in Church Street, Brighton, where she continued to delight audiences and create wonderful memories. Now, after a century of musical adventures, Eliza is making her way back home to The Capitol.
Originally built by Wurlitzer as Opus 637, she is a truly remarkable and beloved instrument. Through changing times, generations of audiences and countless performances, her music has continued to inspire and entertain.
Thank you, Opus 637, for a century of wonderful memories and music.
As we celebrate 100 years, we’re looking forward to the exciting plans ahead and to seeing Eliza return to her original home for the next chapter of her remarkable story.
Happy 100th birthday, Eliza!
