Duelling Keyboards: A Concert to Remember

Duelling Keyboards: A Concert to Remember

What happens when two extraordinary musicians, two magnificent instruments and a little friendly rivalry take the stage? Duelling Keyboards!

Melbourne Theatre Organ’s recent concert at Kingston City Hall was a truly memorable afternoon, bringing together Tony Fenelon OAM and John Giacchi for a spectacular musical conversation between the mighty Kingston Wurlitzer Theatre Organ and a magnificent Kawai grand piano.

With an unusually large audience filling the hall, anticipation was high—and the performance certainly delivered. The diverse programme took the audience on a musical journey spanning classical masterpieces, stage and screen favourites and dazzling concert works, including music by Rachmaninoff, Strauss, Andrew Lloyd Webber, de Falla, Charles Williams and Gottschalk, alongside the ever-popular “Ghost Riders in the Sky.”

There was plenty of virtuosity, musical interplay and good-natured rivalry as Tony and John traded musical passages and shared the spotlight. Carefully crafted visuals added another dimension to the performance, creating a feast for both the eyes and ears.

It was also a wonderful gathering of the theatre organ community, with audience members travelling from across Victoria and former artists, presidents and even a founding member of the original Theatre Organ Society among those attending.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this special event possible—including the Kingston City Hall team and Stewart Kelly’s House of Pianos for generously supplying the Kawai grand piano.

Two keyboards. Two remarkable musicians. One unforgettable afternoon.

Sound You Can Feel.An unforgettable afternoon of music, virtuosity and good-natured rivalry.
